RICH Hub call for African climate AI innovators

The Research & Innovation for Climate (RICH) Hub is inviting African climate AI innovators, researchers, startups, organisations, and solution developers to express interest in joining its growing pipeline of innovations advancing climate resilience across Africa.

Who should apply?

The Hub is looking for African-led or Africa-based innovations that:

  • Address a clearly defined climate or environmental challenge relevant to African communities, ecosystems, institutions, or economies.
  • Use AI and/or data-driven technologies as a meaningful part of the solution.
  • Have reached the pilot stage or beyond and are being tested or used with their intended communities, organisations, or end users.
  • Have potential for further development, adoption, or scale.

Potential support from the Hub

Selected innovations may access opportunities for:

  • Technical and innovation support
  • Coaching, research, piloting, and knowledge exchange
  • Ecosystem connections and introductions to potential collaborators and implementation partners
  • Increased visibility and scaling partnerships
  • Potential scaling grants of up to USD 200,000

Funding is not guaranteed. Any support, including potential grant funding, depends on eligibility, assessment, available resources, the innovation’s stage of development, and alignment with the Hub’s objectives. Submitting an Expression of Interest does not guarantee selection, support, or a grant.

Rolling applications and data sharing

The Hub accepts Expressions of Interest on a rolling basis. Innovators can submit when ready to be considered for relevant opportunities as they arise. The form also offers an option to consent to having selected information about an innovation included in a potential public Climate AI Innovation Database. This consent is voluntary and is not required for consideration.
